We’ve all seen it, TikTok and Instagrammers across the world claiming that their “morning routine for success” consists of waking up at 5 am. They also smash out a 40-minute workout, eat of course, avocado toast for breakfast (because what else), and get to work by 10 am on a weekday – lol. How about we come back down to Earth and say hello to the other 99% of the population that needs realistic inspiration for their morning routine that is healthy and productive? A successful morning routine is all about building on essential habits, mindfulness, and self-care. Today we’re talking about a morning routine for success that we can all get behind.

My name is Marissa – I’m a 26-year-old entrepreneur, with seriously 3+ jobs on top of a startup company, health goals, a personal life, and aspirations, just like you. I truly believe that our mornings have such a huge impact on the tone of our day. But, I also don’t believe all mornings should be the same, nor do I think every day is the same.
Coming from a girl that grew up with a registered Dietitian who inspired health and wellness in a balanced way and learning at a young age the power of self-love and mindset, I can tell you that while I don’t think a morning routine is essential to your success, I think that it brings balance and wellness back into our lives.

Morning Routine For Success
1. Essential Morning Habits That Matter
Get Enough Rest – Healthy Morning Routine Habit #1
I know we see it all over social media. “Welcome to my 4:30 am morning routine!”
I’m lucky that naturally, I’m an early riser. But, “early” is relative. For some, waking up early is 9 am and for others, it’s 4:30 am. Regardless, we all have the same 24 hours in a day, so why are we putting so much emphasis on the time that we start our routines?
I personally love waking up between 7 am and 7:30 am. It’s quiet, the emails haven’t started, and that allows for me to get in 7+ hours of sleep (I’m a total night owl who is up to at least 11 pm at night, every night, and I don’t feel bad about that!)
For others, that might be soooo early or sooo late. It’s completely relative. It’s important to put less pressure on what time we wake up, and start focusing more on how much rest we’re getting because sleep is essential to our normal body functions, our muscles rebuilding from intense workouts, and so much more.

My fiancé’s family recently got me a pair of Amazon Essentials Women’s Pajama Set for Christmas and seriously, these pajamas are high quality and SO affordable. I bought another pair in Lavendaire and I’m obsessed with them!
I’ve been wearing these on repeat throughout my morning routine and they truly make me feel like I’m living out the most aesthetic morning routine, ever – ha!
Morning Skincare Routine – Daily Habits for Success #2
Once I got in my 20s, I became very aware of my mortality and for whatever reason, my skincare routine was something that I knew was important to start young, before it was too late.
The first thing I do every morning is wash my face. I love the CeraVe Face Wash, Hydrating Facial Cleanser for Normal to Dry Skin. I always buy the extra big one because it lasts over a year and it’s less than $20! It’s also Dermatologist recommended and I am all about science-based products (I work in marketing, so I’ve experienced firsthand what happens behind the scenes to get a product sold and it’s honestly sad).)
This face wash does an amazing job washing off my Olay Retinol 24 Max Night Face Moisturizer for Dull Skin Fragrance-Free which I swear by. If you followed me on YouTube for a while, I did an entire review of this product towards the end of this video starting at 6:20!
I finish off my morning skincare routine with CeraVe Daily Face and Body Moisturizing Lotion for Normal to Dry Skin and my skin loves it. Most of all, I love that this daily face lotion helps restore the protective barrier on your skin, it’s fragrance-free and hypoallergenic for my sensitive girls out there (hello, that’s also me), and it’s so affordable!
There’s something about caring my for skin first thing in the morning that makes me feel so good about myself and sets the tone for a great day. It also takes less than 5 minutes which is ideal for busy gals like you.
Avoid Emails, Social Media, & Texts For At Least 30 Mins – Effective Morning Routine Habit #3
This is a morning routine habit that I started implementing at the beginning of 2023 and I don’t mean to be dramatic, but it has totally changed my life!
I set a goal for myself that I was not going to look at my phone for at least 30 minutes after waking up and my social media screen time has gone down significantly. I’ll send my fiancé and quick morning text and off I go to start my wellness morning routine!
I started implementing morning self-help reading for 5-15 minutes, depending on how much time I have in the morning, and it makes me so happy.
I personally don’t like reading tangible books, so I recently splurged on an Apple iPad Air 10.9-inch Wi-Fi Only (2022, 5th Generation) and seriously, it’s so unnecessary (frugal girl talking here), but I absolutely love it. I use it to look at my 2023 Vision Board, which you can download for free here, reading books, shopping (yes, 100% shopping, ha!) and it has contributed so positively to my wellness lifestyle! I’ll link a few of the physical books I’ve been reading and loving in January below.
I normally read self-help in the morning, and fiction at night! This has contributed so positively to my overall mindset, attitude toward the day, and happiness.
Books I’ve Been Reading in January:
The Mountain Is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage Into Self-Mastery (very eye-opening and actionable!)
Before ( After) (Paperback) by Anna Todd (dramatic, hot, and steamy! And, opens up a can of worms to an entire series).
Make Your Bed (Basic, I Know) – Simple Morning Habit #4
Some people don’t make their beds and I’ll be honest, I just don’t get them, lol! I make my bed every morning to “reset” after the night and get ready for the day. I also love climbing into a crisp, well-made bed at the end of a long day, it’s something to look forward to. It’s also like a fresh start, every night!
I don’t think whether you make your bed or not contributes to your overall morning routine success, but I do think it puts your mind in the right space to kick your successful morning routine off on the right foot.
Hydrate – My Morning Routine Habit #5
I always start my morning with water, before anything else. Is this necessary? No, nor am I a Dietitian but I do believe hydrating your body before anything else helps kickstart the day off right. Maybe that’s a personal thing but I find that it makes me feel refreshed, hydrated, and ready for the day!
I try to make it super easy on myself, so I keep an insulated water bottle by my bed every night so it’s the first thing I grab in the morning!
2. Move Your Body – Daily Routine For Success
I find that I have the highest energy levels in the morning which is why I love smashing out a workout first thing. I’ll be completely honest when I say that when I have to be at work at 8 am on certain days of the week, working out in the morning just isn’t realistic with my lifestyle.
My best advice is to plan what workouts you’re doing and when you’re doing them the day before. This has been a lifesaver for me, especially maintaining multiple startup companies, a job, life, eating healthy, and so much more.
For example, let’s say you plan to work out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, but Tuesdays/Thursdays are your rest days. That’s totally doable and acceptable!
On my busier days, I always plan for those to be active rest days. If I can get at least 30 minutes of movement in on those days whenever I have time, I’m happy with that.
If I don’t have time, I don’t beat myself up! I enjoy incorporating low-intensity workouts like walking, hiking, or a game of pickleball in whenever I can.
I strive to move my body every day because it makes me feel good and I find that getting my workout done first thing in the morning guarantees that I won’t miss out on my workout later!
It doesn’t always happen like this, but when it does, I’m thrilled.
Tip: workout at home – I find that I only have small pockets of time to move my body. Having a space with a simple matt, mirror, fan, dumbbells, and resistance loops is all you need to see some serious fitness results. And, it’s so convenient to do it right at your house & saves so much time!
Here are some morning routine essentials that have made my routine that much easier!
